New Angus-wide festival to celebrate creative talent

The Angus Festival of Making will take place from August 20-28 and will offer the public the opportunity to take part in and experience creative making activities including spinning, weaving, painting, pottery, jewellery, stone carving and sculpture.

Venues include Murton Farm near Forfar, Montrose Playhouse and Kirriemuir Community Garden as well as individual studios and workspaces.

The festival will also feature local producers of artisan food and drink, with tastings on offer for a range of produce including chocolate, pies and beer. Festival-goers will also be able to visit exhibitions, attend studio demonstrations, try new creative activities in taster sessions and appreciate first-hand the skill and talent of dedicated makers working in the area.

The festival has been initiated by Angus Creatives, a network of professional creatives, and is supported by the Angus Place Partnership, Creative Scotland and Angus Alive.

Carol Sinclair, festival co-founder, said “We are really excited to launch this new festival. There is a hidden wealth of creativity in Angus and we're looking forward to sharing our stories and inspiration.

"There will be a whole variety of opportunities to try hands-on making experiences, sample delicious local produce and see behind the scenes to understand the skills and creativity that go into each product.

"And of course there will be plenty of opportunities to buy directly from the makers.”

There will be activities to suit all ages, with a number of dedicated events for families and children as well as craft and food enthusiasts.All events are free to attend and a full programme will be in due course at www.angusfestivalofmaking.co.uk which will include an online interactive map and guide to festival venues.

Visitors are encouraged to consider sustainable modes of transport such as buses, cycling and walking.
