Prolific striker signs on at Gayfield

Joining Dick Campbell’s side for the 2022/23 season is 20-year-old striker Kieran Shanks who has agreed terms and joins on a three-year deal from Highland League side Inverurie Locos.

A product of the Aberdeen Youth system, Shanks came through the ranks at Pittodrie and played in the same team as Miko Virtanen, who has also enjoyed a spell on loan with Arbroath.

In November 2020 he joined Inverurie Locos and scored 30 goals in 44 appearances.

He ended this season as Locos’ top goalscorer, and was named players player of the year and committees player of the year.

The Championship club has also announced a raft of departures with some players released while others have left following a loan spell.

Michael Bakare, Sam Ford, Calum Antell and Liam Henderson have left the club with Craig Wighton, Jack Hamilton and Chris Hamilton all returning to their respective parent sides.

At the time of writing this meant Arbroath had 14 players already under contract, with Cammy Gill and Keaghan Jacobs having agreed terms with the club taking the squad up to 16.

The summer transfer window opens again on June 10.

Arbroath being their competitive season with a trip to face St Mirren in the Premier Sports Cup on Saturday, July 9.

They then host Cowdenbeath on Wednesday, July 13.

Games against Edinburgh City, July 16 and Airdrie, July 23 follow.
