Weather warning for North-east upgraded to Red

Snow has been forecast for some areas of north Angus and Highland Perthshire, but in particular a warning of high winds in North-east Scotland are expected to cause damage and travel disruption.

What to expect in the event of a RED warning:-

• Flying debris resulting in danger to life

• Damage to buildings and homes, with roofs blown off and power lines brought down

• Roads, bridges and railway lines closed, with delays and cancellations to bus, train, ferry services and flights

• Power cuts affecting other services, such as mobile phone coverage

• Large waves and beach material being thrown onto coastal roads, sea fronts and homes

Angus Council is warning local residents to take care and stay indoors if possible.

A spokesperson said: “The RED warning for our area is in place from 3pm this afternoon until 2am on Saturday (November 27). Please be prepared and stay safe.

“Gusts in excess of 65-75mph have been forecast and there is also likelihood of snow, on higher ground in particular.

“The Met Office offers sound advice to help people cope with the worst of the weather. Please stay safe and warm and stay indoors if at all possible.

“You can also find a wide range of information on the Ready Scotland website about what to do before, during and after a storm. Knowing what to do can help to keep you, your family and your neighbours safe and well.”
