£600,000 road resurfacing project near Forfar to start this weekend

A £600,000 scheme to resurface a section of the A90 south of Forfar is due to get under way this weekend.

The surfacing improvements, which are scheduled to start on Sunday evening are intended to address defects in the road surface on the road’s northbound between North Mains of Invereighty and Newlands Junction.

The main surfacing work will take place over five days, with operations programmed where possible to take place consecutively. All improvements are expected to be completed by 6.30am on Saturday, January 22, weather allowing.

Restrictions will be in place as follows: January 16-25, overnight lane closures will be in place on both the northbound and southbound carriageways to allow for traffic management to be installed ahead of the project; January 17-22 - To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists, there will be a road closure on the A90 northbound from just after Gateside Junction to just after Lochlands Junction with all traffic running in contraflow on the A90 southbound. The A90 northbound Douglastown on and off-slips will be closed during this time.

Off-slip traffic will be diverted via A94 Forfar Junction and on-slip traffic will be diverted via Gateside Junction. The Lochlands Junction from A90 northbound approach will be closed with traffic diverted via A94 Forfar Junction and back down the A90 southbound. The Lochlands Junction to A90 northbound will also be closed with traffic diverted via Gateside Junction.

Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North east unit representative, said: “This £610,000 investment from Transport Scotland will greatly improve and strengthen this section of the A90, as well as create a smoother and safer journey for motorists.

“The traffic management is essential to ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists. To help minimise delays, we’ve planned the improvements to be carried out using 24-hour working, and our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as possible.
