Saul's World Cup experience is a weekend to remember

Nine-year-old Saul Fenemore, led the Scotland team on to the pitch against Tonga in Nice at the weekend as a Defender of Tomorrow and Mascot during their Rugby World Cup campaign.

The inspiring youngster was awarded the role for his hard work ethic and dedication to playing rugby at his local club, Carnoustie, and was one of just 96 young people from around the world to have been chosen.

Saul was put forward for the honour after the club’s president circulated a note earlier this year that Land Rover UK was sponsoring a mascot.

The youngsters were picked by Defender, Worldwide Partner of Rugby World Cup 2023, for their dedication to making a difference to their local communities.

Before taking up rugby, Saul had struggled with drive and ambition but the sport transformed his life, with many now praising him for his can-do attitude and striving for the best.

He has since become a huge advocate for rugby among his classmates at school – and hopes to one day represent his country.

Each exceptional hero will lead the teams as they walk out onto the pitch throughout the tournament in France. Saul and his family were flown to Nice where they enjoyed a meal with the team and he had the chance to practise the mascots’ walk-out before being given his uniform.
