Proposed study to reveal story behind Brechin street

And a public meeting will be held in the Bridgend Bar next week 16 to discuss how to progress the examination of River Street.

Ron Scrimgeour from the trust said that the group is currently considering what he said is a “proud and unque” part of the town.

He said: “River Street is a proud, unique, and exciting part of Brechin with its own history and sociology. It would make a very interesting study and would provide opportunities for research, community engagement and a variety of outcomes.

“A study in miniature of River Street would allow for engagement with individuals, families past and present, community groups, primary schools and the photographic society.

"It would be an opportunity for the Civic Trust to embark on a significant reboot project during its 51st year.”

Although Mr Scrimgeour said that the project could present a variety of outcomes, the end result would not be evident until sufficient progress had been made.

These include the publishing of the study’s findings, the discovery of personal and family histories, a photographic exhibition, and even a River Street tartan.

He added: “Regardless of the outcomes, the “journey” itself is the important thing.”

The open meeting will be held this Tuesday (May 16) at 7pm and both individuals and members of local community groups will be welcome to attend.
