Celebrating the achievements of Angus's young people

Nominations will remain open until 12pm on Friday (September 30) and anyone can nominate a young person (aged 11-25) as long as they have their permission and the young person lives, works or studies in Angus.

Young people can also nominate themselves.

The awards, organised by Angus Council’s Vibrant Communities Service, recognise young people’s achievements and celebrates those who have made a difference in Angus.

The categories are: Volunteer, Young person’s voice, Sports, The arts, Enterprise, Environment/heritage, Equality and diversity role model and Group achievement.

Owen Foster who won the Enterprise Category in 2020 for his work as a local jam producer, said: “I was absolutely delighted to be nominated in 2020. To go on and win the award was a surprise and it seemed like a reward for my hard work. It also gave me a boost in confidence and a rise in contracts to shops, hotels and farm shops across the county and other parts of Scotland.”

Councillor Lynne Devine, children and learning convener, who is on the judging panel, said: “There are so many inspirational achievements being made by young people in Angus and these awards give them the chance to acknowledge, showcase and celebrate all that they have achieved. I’m delighted to be on the judging panel for the awards and looking forward to reading the entries.”

Communities convener Councillor Mark McDonald, who is also on the panel, added: “As judges we can only do that with the help of the people of Angus – by making nominations. If you know a young person, please put them forward for an award – there’s no limit to the number of nominations you can make.”

The winners will be announced online during National Youth Work Week, which runs from November 7-11, on the Young Scot Angus website.
