With the likely reduction of Church of Scotland buildings in the area it looked as if the Scout Group would be losing their home but rather than wait for the inevitable to happen the leadership team started looking for options for a new base.

At the same time they were approached to see how they would feel about taking over the Pitstop building and creating a Scout hut within it. Needless to say they could not dismiss this opportunity and after several meetings, surveys and taking advice from many quarters it has been decided to move forward with this option.

There is a lot of work to be done to make the building and grounds up to a comfortable standard but they hope to move in properly over the summer once work is complete.

A spokesperson said: “Being offered the use of the Pitstop building is a fantastic opportunity for the Scout Group to grow and in the future we hope to be able to offer other opportunities for the young people in Forfar. We will of course miss our tangible ties with St Margaret’s. We are eternally grateful for their support of the last 50 years and hope to maintain links going forward.”
