The local authority has allocated a £50,000 fund to provide additional grit bins to make sure the county’s public roads and pathways can be kept clear and safe. The most suitable locations for them are now being established.

A spokesperson said: “ We've already received our first order of the new bins and we are already siting these at identified locations where core services are provided. We are also working with community councils to identify the other locations most in need.

“We provide grit and grit bins on a self-help basis to enable you to keep public areas around your homes and businesses clear. We ask that you don't use the grit for your own private paths or driveways, to ensure that there is enough grit to keep the areas most used clear.”
