The firm, near Lunan Bay and run by brothers John, Iain and David Stirling, has also set its sights on becoming the world’s first green hydrogen-powered distillery, working with Locogen and Logan Energy to make the switch.

Arbikie already produces Nàdar, the world’s first ‘climate-positive’ gin and vodka.

Mr Doogan has submitted an Early Day Motion to celebrate the business’s strides in tackling their carbon footprint.

It read: “That this House congratulates Arbikie Highland Estate Distillery for winning the Green Distilleries Competition; notes the £3 million grant awarded to pursue green projects; commends the installation of a 1MW wind turbine and progress towards becoming the first green-hydrogen-powered distillery; applauds their creation of Nàdar, the world’s first climate-positive gin and vodka; and appreciates the great strides Arbikie Distillery have made towards a fully renewable and sustainable future in the drinks industry.

Mr Doogan said: “This development is a clear illustration of Arbikie’s place at the forefront of the green revolution here in Angus.

“Harnessing Scotland’s vast wind potential and investing in the technologies of the future, like green hydrogen, is a necessity for sectors across the nation as we face the enormity of the climate crisis.

“Arbikie has a proud history of excellent produce, including the world’s first climate-positive gin and vodka, and their efforts to lead the way in this respect are outstanding."

He also said that the company has set an example to businesses across Scotland, and the world, which will look to Arbikie for inspiration.

Mr Doogan added: “My congratulations go to the team for winning this competition, putting their business, and Angus, firmly on the map.

“It was a great pleasure to visit Arbikie last May just as they were about to open their visitor experience and witness the outstanding quality of their offer. This enterprise is a real credit to Angus’ distilling and tourist economies.”
